Learning languages with audiobooks: how it works
An audiobook is your mobile language course: listen, read along, speak along. Turn any audiobook into your personal learning path – completely without drilling.
Why audiobooks are ideal
Audiobooks deliver natural language from native speakers – with stress, pace and sentence melody. You can listen to them anywhere: while commuting, cooking or taking a walk.
Audiobook + text = Listening-Reading
If you also have the text for the audiobook, you combine listening and reading – the most effective form of Listening-Reading. If the text is missing, automatic transcription helps.
The 4-step path with audiobooks
- Understand: get an overview of what it is about.
- Read along: listen and read along silently several times.
- Absorb: let it keep playing passively in the background.
- Shadowing: first read aloud along, then 1 second behind.
More about this on the method page.
How FlowLingua implements this
- MP3 import: upload your audiobooks and podcasts.
- Automatic transcription: audio becomes text – word for word.
- Karaoke timing: the text runs word by word in sync with the audio.
- Repeat & tempo: practice sentences or paragraphs specifically, play them more slowly.
