Three methods that polyglots have used for decades – combined in one app. One principle: you learn a language through understanding.
Word-for-word decoding makes grammar intuitively understandable – ideal if you don't understand much yet.
Reading and listening at the same time with translation – for listening comprehension and vocabulary.
Understandable content that genuinely interests you – the key to becoming fluent.
I wanted to learn languages – but memorizing vocabulary and grammar put me off. So I researched how polyglots really do it. Their common principle: understand, don't memorize.
With that I learned two very different languages. Today I think in those languages and give talks without notes – I speak without thinking about grammar, because I feel what's right, like in my native language.
That's why I built my program as an app and web app – so you can go the same way.
What to expect:
After 15 minutes – words stick while you listen and read.
After 2–3 hours – you get a feel for the grammar – completely intuitively.
After 1–2 weeks – people no longer speak “too fast”.
After 1–2 months – free, simple conversations and thinking easily in the language.

Word-for-word translation – synced to the audio.

No. The word-for-word translation makes texts understandable even if you don't know a single word yet – and the better you get, the less help you need.
Shadowing is great for learning to speak: repeat sentences right after the native speaker – first aloud along with them, then slightly delayed. This works with any text that has audio. Reading along aloud also trains your pronunciation. More about this on the method page.
FlowLingua focuses on real content you understand – not vocabulary quizzes and points. You learn with books, videos and audio that genuinely interest you.
Do you understand less than half? First skim to see what it's about. Then press play and silently read along the word-for-word translation for the unknown words while you hear the original – the words stick. If you understand more than half, just follow the audio and only glance at the translations when you need to.
Every step has a clear goal instead of a time limit: 1) If you understand less than half, skim the text beforehand until you know what it's about. 2) Read along silently until you understand everything effortlessly – even without looking at the text. 3) Passive listening is optional – as long as you like. 4) Read along aloud and do shadowing until you can keep up half a second behind without the text.
